Food and cities - Malmö 19 september 2018

Food supply chains represent a big, problematic and often complicated issue for cities and urban areas as they strive to become more environmentally sustainable.

The ecological footprint for this aspect of a city is large, however, despite the prevailing business models engrained in our food supplies there are opportunities to reduce it is to increase the production of food in or in direct connection with the cities, including through methodologies which incorporate the principles of circular economy and social sustainability.

At this the Food and Cities conference, we will aim to clarify the concepts surrounding urban food production and clarify the conditions that need to be met in order to be able to achieve a food production vital to the future shape of our cities.

The conference will be composed of a series of talks from world leading experts in the field along with actors from real world case studies of urban food production in Norther Europe. Further, the conference represents the finale of the Vinnova-funded innovation competition Urban Food from Residual Heat.
