About Malmö Art Museum
Malmö Art Museum is one of the leading art museums in Scandinavia with a collection of around 40,000 artworks.
The collection of Malmö Art Museum mainly covers the period from the 16th century until today. Most of Scandinavia's innovative and highly distinguished artists are represented in the collection. In the course of the past twenty years the museum has focused on Nordic contemporary art.
The museum was founded in 1841 as part of Malmö Museum. Later Malmö Museum was divided into two museums, Malmö Art Museum and Malmö Museer.
The museum building from 1937 is situated in the Malmöhus Castle complex, one of the oldest remaining renaissance castles in Scandinavia. Malmö Art Museum is governed by the City of Malmö.
The exhibitions of Malmö Art Museum reflect current developments in contemporary art, both in the Nordic countries and on the international scene, as well as offer retrospectives. The museum exhibit art that explore, define, comment and critique our history and our contemporary life.
