Literary Fragments: Eli Levén (eng)
Literary fragments is a three-part series of readings and conversations at the crosssection of visual art, poetry and prose. In collaboration with Malmö Libraries.
Literary Fragments is part of the public programme for the exhibition (in)visible which is currently showing at the Malmö Art Museum until the 9th of January 2022. The curatorial approach of the exhibition attempts to provide glimpses into expressions of queerness, leaving room for a multiplicity of interpretations. Literary Fragments follows suit and takes from a depository of infinite narratives and experiences.
In this first edition, we invite author Eli Levén to read extracts of his work on stage at the Malmö City Library. He will also present rare photographs that he has taken and collected over the years.
Be it by drawing inspiration from classical painting or by working with the cinematographic medium, Levén’s trajectory shows an artistic sensibility that goes beyond literary conventions. After the reading, he will be joined in conversation by Albin Hillervik, director of Skånes konstförening.
The events are free of charge and no registration is required. Seats are limited, however.
Spoken language: Swedish.
Literary Fragments #2:
13/11, 15.00, Garaget
Literary Fragments #3:
25/11, 18.00, Malmö Stadsbibliotek
Eli Levén’s novels Du är rötterna som sover vid mina fötter och håller jorden på plats (2010) and Hur jag skulle vilja försvinna (2020) inhabit a twilight zone between desire and extinction, restoration and vulnerability. For Léven, language operates as a caring force, and he often lets his characters passively navigate between different sexual, vital, deathly, and spiritual states. His first book gave rise to two films: the internationally acclaimed Something Must Break (2014), written by the author himself, and the hybrid documentary Pojktanten (2012). He was born in 1984 in Södertälje.
Albin Hillervik works as curator and editor and has been the director of Skånes konstförening since 2019. Ha has previously worked as exhibition assistant at Wanås Konst and at Milvus Artistic Research Center in Knislinge together with choreographer Rachel Tess. Hillervik is also curating an exhibition with artists Conny Karlsson Lundgren and Benny Nemer, opening next spring at Ystads konstmuseum.
Produced by Tawanda Appiah and Jari Malta with Malmö Konstmuseum and Malmö stadsbibliotek.
