About Malmö

General information about Malmö

Welcome to Malmö! As Sweden’s third-largest city, Malmö in the south of Sweden is a symbol of cross-border diversity and a creative and inquisitive mini-metropolis. Starting out as an industrial city, Malmö is now a knowledge hub, known for its environmental work.

Malmö, with a population of 330,000, is an international city with a compact, vibrant city centre, located between two international airports just 30 minutes from the city centre.

Malmö has a vision of being a socially, economically and ecologically sustainable city.  Efforts are actively being employed by industry, research, the municipality and Malmö’s residents to reduce health inequalities, primarily focusing on children and young people. Moreover, Malmö is at the forefront of the construction of ecological environments, such as Augustenborg, Västra Hamnen and Hyllie, where the conference is being held.

Each year, the City of Malmö receives awards for its sustainability work. For example, in 2014 the City of Malmö was named Skåne’s best LGBT city and environmental municipality of the year. Recently, the European Commission awarded Malmö the Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning Award 2016.
