Every fourth trip to Malmö is made by bicycle. Malmö City is actively working to encourage cycling.

Malmö has been apointed the best municipality for furthering cycling in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. In 2018 Malmö was elected the best city for cycling by the countries cyclists and the cyclistvelometer of the National Bicycle Association. Malmö has also been highly ranced in the Copenhagenize index, as one of the best cycling cities in the world.

Through cycle-friendly urban planning, the city hopes to reach targets set for cyclists and automobiles. Malmo City works towards a greater level of road safety and a better environment.
