The Dancing Bee – A Talk by Dr. Arzhang Manavi
Dr. Arzhang Manavi is a sociologist of literature, writer, and researcher. He has lived in exile for many years and is based in Malmö, Sweden.
He has published numerous works on subjects including Persian literature, Latin American and African literature, education and popular education, the education of migrant children, cultural identity, as well as literature, songs, and stories for children. His works reach readers of different ages.
His opposition to the dictatorial political structure in Iran and his critical perspective on education have made it impossible for his works to be published in Iran.
The Dancing Bee is the title of this talk and also of a booklet presenting his collected works. In the talk, Dr. Manavi discusses his intellectual and literary journey, his experiences from many years as a teacher and his life in exile, as well as his work in the sociology of literature.
From a sociological perspective, he explores the relationship between literature and society, the mutual influence between literature and social and political movements, and the role of literature in shaping cultural identity among people with migration experiences. Dialectical thinking, education, migration, identity, and social change are central themes of the talk.
