IB Career-related Programme
Business Administration in Hospitality Management (BAHM)
The IB-CP is a vocational programme focused on Business Administration and Hospitality Management.
About IB-CP BAHM
Business Administration in Hospitality Management (BAHM) is a programme that follows both the Career-related Programme of the IB and the Swedish Retail and Service Programme. The IB-CP is a framework of iinternational education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education.
The programme is a vocational programme which may lead to
higher education if certain courses (such as Swedish) are completed
successfully.
BAHM Curriculum
The BAHM curriculum offers students a minimum of two Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a career-related course. This leads to an IB-CP certificate.
DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the Career-related Programme, at the same time as the career-related component builds on this foundation by providing practical, real-world approaches to learning.
The Career-related Programme core helps students to develop the skills and attributes required for lifelong learning. The programme’s curriculum framework develops:
- linguistic proficiency
- critical thinking skills
- maturity and responsibility
- time management skills
- a strong work ethic
- social and communication skills.
These capabilities are complementary to the accredited skills students gain as a requirement of their career-related studies.
The Preparatory Year (Year 1)
The Pre-CP is a one-year course prior to the actual IB Career-related
Programme.
The aim of the Pre-CP year is to equip students for the challenges of the Career-related Programme itself by developing students’ academic, hospitality and language skills, preparing them to study a broad range of subjects in English.

A Pathway to Employment
The Career-related Programme prepares students for the world of work, as well as helping them to develop their personal qualities. By doing so it leads students down a pathway of their own making, towards further or higher education, apprenticeships or a career.
Students who study Swedish levels 2 and 3 can graduate with both an IB-CP Certificate and a Swedish vocational qualification. The Swedish vocational qualification is required to obtain a full Swedish upper secondary school diploma. Swedish levels 2 and 3 are also required for general eligibility to higher education in Sweden.
Assessment and Exams
Students sit written examinations at the end of their IB Diploma Programme courses. These are marked by external IB examiners. The components of the Career-related studies and the core are assessed directly by Malmö Borgarskola.
Language studies
Language studies in Swedish and Spanish are encouraged for BAHM students, in preparation for future internships and academic studies.
Partnership with HIM
Malmö Borgarskola collaborates with Hotel Institute Montreux (HIM), which is part of the prestigious Swiss Education Group (SEG). Educators from HIM routinely conduct part of the teaching on the IB-CP.
In the Pre-CP, students may take part in a study trip to Switzerland, which includes a visit to HIM. A number of scholarships are awarded to enable students to conduct part of their training at HIM in Switzerland.
Summer Programme
At the end of the Pre-CP year, outstanding students may be awarded scholarships to attend the Swiss Education Academy’s (SEA) Summer Programme.
