Student Welfare Team (SWT)

Our experienced welfare team supports the well-being of every MIS student.

Within our student welfare team we offer support from the school nurse, the Welfare Counsellor, the school psychologist and the Learning Support Coordinator.

At MIS we encourage individuality and embrace every student’s uniqueness and autonomy. We respect differences and welcome diversity in our students.

We work with a range of positive strategies to deal with any kind of discrimination and provide a skilled and knowledgeable anti-bullying team to ensure we create surroundings in which every student feels safe, secure and valued.

In addition to this, our Study and Careers Counsellor is available to support students in making important decisions about their future.

MIS and the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model

MIS focuses on student welfare and believes that students are able to achieve more when they have a positive sense of self-esteem and well-being. With this in mind, MIS works with Ross Greene’s Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model. This model advocates that a child will do well, if he/she can. When a child (of any age) is not doing well, one of the methods we use is to map the situation in order to find out if there are any lagging skills that may be leading to challenging behaviour. We then decide on one or more unsolved problems to solve together – child and adult. It is a method which encourages empathy and seeing other perspectives. It also aims to develop a collaborative partnership between child and adult. Both the child and adult come to an agreement on the responsibility that each of them has in a given situation, and work towards finding a mutually agreeable, collaborative and proactive solution. In this way, we aim to empower students and staff to take ownership of situations and solutions together.
