Diploma Programme
Introduced in 1994, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB-DP) at Malmö Borgarskola is one of the oldest and largest IB Diploma Programmes in Scandinavia. With an average IB Diploma score of 35 points, Malmö Borgarskola is one of the top IB-DP schools in Sweden.
The Gateway to Higher Education and the World
The Diploma Programme (DP) is highly recognized and appreciated by all of the world’s best universities, in Sweden and internationally. As all Swedish upper secondary programs are three years, the IB-DP at Malmö Borgarskola starts with the Pre-DP followed by DP1 and DP2.
The vast majority of our graduates continue on to higher education, many studying at top universities.
Pre-DP Curriculum
The Pre-DP is a one-year course prior to the actual IB Diploma Programme. As a Pre-DP student, you follow a course of study which is like the Social Science Programme in the Swedish system, making it simpler for you to change to another programme should you decide not to continue with the IB. The Pre-DP also includes courses that you may need later to apply to Swedish universities.
The aim of Pre-DP is to equip you for the challenges of the Diploma Programme by developing academic and language skills, preparing you to study a broad range of subjects in English.
The teaching language is English, except for Swedish and foreign language classes.

DP1 and DP 2 Curriculum
The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP Core. As a DP student, you choose six subjects from the groups below.
Three subjects are studied at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. At both Higher and Standard Levels each subject is graded on a scale of 1 to 7, where 7 is the maximum. The award of the Diploma requires a minimum total of 24 points and a pass in the IB Core. Good Extended Essays and
Theory of Knowledge Essays (see below) may give the student 3 bonus points and therefore the maximum score is 45 points. Students holding the IB Diploma are accepted by universities worldwide.
The DP Core
The Diploma Core is made up of the following elements:
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
A subject which aims to train your critical thinking. Issues from the fields of Logic, Ethics and Philosophy are discussed. TOK is graded in the form of an exhibition in DP1 and an essay in DP2.
The Extended Essay (EE)
An essay of 4,000 words in an IB subject of your choice, providing an excellent opportunity to undertake original research and learn more about a topic of special interest to you. The essay is assessed by an external examiner.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
CAS aims to let you experience the importance of life outside school. Creativity and Activity should play an equal part with Service in the CAS programme. CAS should challenge you and help you develop a spirit of discovery and self-reliance as well as encouraging new skills and interests and a sense of responsibility towards members of the community.
