A lot of people in the city centre during 9 May
There is a lot going on in Malmö right now. In addition to Eurovision and the youth football championship, there will be a permitted demonstration during the afternoon of 9 May. The police estimate a turnout of up to 20,000 participants. This will cause traffic disruption.
A demonstration against Israel's participation in Eurovision Song Contest will start in the afternoon from Stortorget. At 16.00, the march will head towards Mölleplatsen, by Malmöhus Castle, along Södra förstadsgatan and Fersens väg. Expect traffic closures on these streets. At 18.00, the march is planned to end, and all streets should then be open again.
On Saturday, 11 May, the same organisers have been given permission to hold a similar demonstration and the march will again leave from Stortorget and finish at Mölleplatsen.
Travel by public transport
If you are able – leave your car at home and use public transport. Skånetrafiken has up to date traffic information on their website and app.
Fully booked accommodation
A lot of people have travelled to Malmö for the various events currently taking place and accommodation in the city is fully booked. Remember that it is not allowed to put up a tent in Malmö without a permit.
Freedom of expression is essential
The City of Malmö welcomes the expression of opinions, within the limits of the law. It is important that citizens in Sweden, in Malmö and in several other countries make their voices heard in different ways. All people in Sweden have constitutionally protected rights and freedoms, including freedom of expression, assembly, and demonstration. This means, among other things, that everyone can express their opinions and attend public gatherings.
Be source critical
It can be particularly difficult to be source critical when strong emotions are involved. If you see rumors floating around on social media, consider who the source is and the purpose of the information before you share it. Sometimes accurate information can take some time, but you can always find it in the city's official channels.
Personnel from City of Malmö is available on site
