Malmö and Agenda 2030
The City of Malmö was an early adopter of the ambition to make the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals a guiding principle for local development efforts.
Since 2020, analyses of Malmö’s progress against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals have served as a key starting point when the City Council sets goals for the city for the term of office, known as City Council goals. The City of Malmö operates on a model where work on Agenda 2030 and the Global Goals is carried out through core functions and in the effort to achieve the City Council goals. This means that when the city’s committees and boards develop their regular operations and work toward the City Council goals, this should also contribute to achieving the Global Goals.
To track progress on the Global Goals, the City of Malmö uses approximately 100 indicators. Together, the indicators under each goal provide an overall picture of how things are progressing in Malmö. In the monitoring process, it is primarily the long-term trend at the societal level that is tracked.
