Urban development is about more than buildings and streets. It is about how people live their lives. That is why it is an important part of the democratic process that the people who use the city also have a say in what is being planned.
Citizen dialogues
Citizen dialogues are used when the City of Malmö wants to hear what Malmö residents think.
Here, you can meet people who govern and manage different areas of the municipality and share your thoughts and experiences with them. Sometimes, you can also help influence decisions directly.
Citizen dialogue is a way of making sure more voices are heard, including those of people who are not yet old enough to vote.
Min Plats / My Place
My Place gives children and young people the opportunity to share how they experience their city.
This participation method makes children and young people experts on the places they know best. It can be used in schools or through associations. Participants explore their local surroundings and share their thoughts about the city. How does this place feel? What works well?
Public consultation
Public consultation gives Malmö residents the opportunity to influence what is being planned in the city.
When Malmö plans new areas or changes to the city, you can submit your views during the part of the planning process known as public consultation. We usually invite those who are most affected by the plan to share their thoughts, ideas and opinions.
Malmöinitiativet / The Malmö Initiative
The Malmö initiative can turn your ideas into reality.
Through the Malmö Initiative, you can submit your own proposals to local politicians. If an initiative receives at least 100 votes, it is sent to the relevant municipal committee to be discussed at one of its meetings. You can also vote for and comment on other people’s ideas.
Proposals can cover everything from safety and traffic to parks and city life.
