The EHF European Men's Handball Championship 2026 returns to Malmö with world-class handball and a city filled with championship spirit.

EHF EURO 2026 in Malmö

The EHF European Men’s Handball Championship is one of Europe’s largest team sports tournaments, and in 2026 Malmö is one of the host cities together with Kristianstad, Herning and Oslo/Bærum.

The championship kicks off on January 15 and concludes on February 1. In Malmö, Sweden, Croatia, the Netherlands and Georgia will face each other in six group stage matches from January 17–21, followed by a main round from January 23–28.

Expect handball at the very highest international level and a true celebration that will be felt throughout the city – with thrilling matches, strong fan engagement and activities taking place all around Malmö.

Lilla EM och Lilla EM-dagarna

Lilla EM is a social initiative linked to the championship that focuses on handball, joy of movement and community engagement.

Throughout autumn 2025, local clubs visit 60 second-grade school classes to introduce Hand the Ball, a pedagogical movement concept aimed at motivating children to play and stay active.

The Lilla EM-days take place at the Stadion area (Stadionområdet) from January 21–25 and offer fun handball activities for schools and the public, with dedicated sessions for school classes during the day and open activities in the afternoons and evenings.

  • 📅 Wednesday, January 21: Open to schools for pupils with intellectual disabilities (morning), primary school classes (afternoon) and the general public (approximately 16:00–19:00).
  • 📅 Thursday, January 22 and Friday, January 23: Open to primary school classes (morning and afternoon) and to the general public (approximately 16:00–19:00).
  • 📅 Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25: Open to the general public (from morning until 19:00).

Fanzone at Lilla Torg

During the championship, Lilla Torg ("Little Square") will be transformed into the city’s official Fanzone – a vibrant meeting place for handball fans from across Europe. Enjoy activities, community spirit and championship atmosphere right in the heart of central Malmö.

The Fanzone offers fun activities for all ages, such as speed shooting, handball target shooting and face painting. At the same time, the square’s restaurants and cafés create a lively and welcoming setting. On weekends, there is an extra focus on family-friendly activities.
