The Labour market and social welfare committee has implemented a series of measures to reduce the need for economic aid in order to increase their likelihood of self-reliance.

Households who received economic aid

The average number of households granted assistance per month decreased by 17% in 2022 compared to 2021.

More Malmö residents in work

A larger proportion of households receiving welfare benefits became self-sufficient during 2022 compared to 2021. A total of 1,157 women and men aged 30 and above, went into employment or began studying after participating in (the City Council’s) labor market interventions.

The proportion of young people with financial assistance

The proportion of young people aged 18 to 29 receiving financial assistance has decreased in 2022. In the age group 18-29, an average of 1,159 households/month received welfare benefits.
