• Malmö Generate District is a compact geographical area close to universities and entrepreneurial environments, and has been designed to promote innovation and sustainable growth.
• A political decision was made on April 12, 2023, when the municipal executive board decided to invest in a start-up district in Malmö.
• The goal is to establish an environment and ecosystem for all businesses driven by innovation, creativity, and sustainable transformation, to accelerate the development power in Malmö.

Malmö Generate District brings the business sector together around a common vision and an exciting context: creativity, sustainability, and adaptability. It increases the desire and the ability to invest, and makes it easier to attract talent and financial backers.

How does the city of Malmö work with the initiative?

• The City of Malmö is the initiative’s initiator.
• The work is based on three dimensions: new models, communication, and place. ‘New models’ involves investigating new models for working methods, organization, and funding. ‘Communication’ is about building the brand and a strong community. ‘Place’ explores how a place can be used in new and creative ways to create an epicenter for the initiative.
• Five areas must be crystallized for the initiative to be successful: Identify potential profiles that resonate with Malmö’s uniqueness, establish powerful models for cocreation, create a context that attracts key interests, draw up an innovative concept idea at the cutting edge, and identify the initiative’s business model and governance.
