Malmö's Tech Industry

The tech industry is a big part of Malmö’s national and international brand, and represents innovation, creativity, and technical expertise. Many of Malmö’s tech companies are impact-driven businesses whose solutions enable societal change within areas such as health, sustainability, and green technologies – areas that the city as a whole is focusing on.

4TH PLACE Skåne ranks fourth in the Nordic region in terms of attracting investments in tech start-ups. Only Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Helsinki are ahead of us. (Sydsverige Live, 2018)

Focus on software as a service (SaaS), climate tech, and medtech. The tech companies in Malmö are a diverse range of large corporations, start-ups, scale-ups, software companies, consultancy companies, and e-commerce companies.

What's up in Malmö within the industry?

  • The largest SaaS conference in the Nordic region, SaaSiest, is held each year in Malmö. It is attended by almost 1,000 companies from around 40 different countries.
  • Europe’s leading climate tech event, The Drop, is arranged annually in Malmö. It attracted more than 950 participants in 2023, around half of whom were investors.
  • ÖreDev, an annual conference/event for developers held since 2005.

How does the city of Malmö work with this industry?

  • One important tool for the city is Minc, a start-up house with a tech focus owned by the City of Malmö. Minc makes a strong contribution toward making Malmö one of Europe’s most attractive cities in which to start and run tech companies.
