Swimming lessons
Hylliebadet offer swimming lessons for children, youths and adults during school semesters and some school holidays.
The swimming courses for children aged 6 to 15 years are divided into four levels depending on the ability/capacity of the child.

The crab
The first level is focused on getting used to being in the water and feeling safe. We practice jumping, dipping, gliding, floating and basic arm- and leg movements.
Previous knowledge
None.
Goal
Water confidence, which includes:
- Jumping into shallow water
- Putting the head under water and creating bubbles
- Gliding face down in the water for five seconds
- Rotating from floating on the back to floating face down without touching the bottom/floor of the pool
- Performing basic arm- and leg movements
The frog
We practice arm and leg movements and learn to coordinate them. We also practice picking up things from the bottom of the pool, rotating from belly to back, falling into deep water and making our way back to the edge of the pool.
Previous knowledge
Water confidence, which includes:
- Jumping into shallow water
- Putting the head under water and creating bubbles
- Gliding face down in the water for five seconds
- Rotating from floating on the back to floating face down without touching the bottom/floor of the pool
- Performing basic arm- and leg movements
Goal
- Be able to swim breaststroke or survival backstroke 10 metres in shallow water
- Be able to make your way back to the edge of the pool after falling into the deep end of the pool
The fish
This level focuses a lot on the arm- and leg movements, and learning to coordinate them. We practice picking things up from the bottom/floor of the pool, feeling safe and swimming our first strokes in deep water.
Previous knowledge
- Be able to swim breaststroke or survival backstroke 10 metres in shallow water
- Be able to make your way back to the edge of the pool after falling into the deep end of the pool
Goal
- Swim 10 metres breaststroke and 10 metres survival backstroke in shallow water
- Falling into deep water and turning around to float on the back
- Feeling safe while swimming in the big pool
The seal
This level focuses on learning to swim both breaststroke and backstroke with the correct technique. We practice jumping, floating and swimming in deep water.
Previous knowledge
- Be able to swim 10 metres breaststroke and 10 metres survival backstroke in shallow water
- Falling into deep water and turning around to float on the back
Goal
- Be able to swim 25 metres breaststroke and 25 metres survival backstroke in deep water
The porpoise
The lessons at this level almost always take place in our 50 metre pool. We increase the length we swim both breaststroke and backstroke and polish our technique. We also practice diving, treading water and life saving.
Previous knowledge
- Be able to swim 25 metres breaststroke and 25 metres survival backstroke in deep water
Goals
- Be able to swim. Falling into the water and landing with the head underneath the surface, manage to reach the surface and after that swim 200 metres, of which 50 metres on the back, in deep water.
Young people, 12–18 years old
This course is aimed at those who are in grades 6–9 in elementary school, or in upper secondary school, and have not passed the goal of swimming in school. Here you can learn to swim with other young people of the same age. The focus is on you being safe in the water, being able to float and develop your swimming. The goal is for you to be able to swim (200 metres).
The course is divided into two levels, one for those of you who with no previous knowledge, and another for those of you who are already confident in the water but need to practice the correct techniques to be able to swim 200 metres.

Level 1: None
Level 2: Water confidence, which includes:
- Jumping into shallow water
- Putting the head under water and creating bubbles
- Gliding face down in the water for five seconds
- Rotating from floating on the back to floating face down without touching the bottom/floor of the pool
- Performing basic arm- and leg movements
Goals
Level 1: Water confidence, which includes:

Level 2: The goal is to become proficient in swimming and achieve the goal of getting approved in swimming according to the school curriculum.
